What is your scariest asthma symptom?

Asthma symptoms can be very unexpected and sometimes frightening. What are your scariest asthma symptoms? And how do you cope with them?

  1. cough that won't stop

    1. she told me that the best and fastest way to get my voice back is to not talk (ha, ha), but other options are to rest my voice as much as possible and not sing...just mouth the words or remain silent... low humming is okay, but do not raise my voice or shout...easy does it!

    2. I'm glad to hear you have some suggestions to think about! Take it easy and allow your voice to heal. All the best, Lauren (Team member)

  2. Sudden coughing attack where I can barely catch my breath. Nebulizer and inhalers help calm me down. But I can clear a room very quickly.

    1. I find myself breathing like this quite often it stops asthma attacks I can tell you that before they start

    2. Does drinking water help?

  3. A reaction to aspirin, after being tested a few months before. Ended up in ER via ambulance.

    1. So you were tested for aspirin reactions and it came back negative? I'm so glad you're OK. -Melissa, team member

    2. wow, years ago I took Alka Selzer cold medicine and had a reaction as well. It caused me to go into a seizure. Haven't touched it since!

  4. Cough that won't allow a breath in, once I couldn't even use my inhaler. Put me in the hospital for 3 days. Thought I was dying before I called 911.

    1. My goodness, this sounds so scary. I'm glad to hear that you immediately called 911. How long was the recovery from this incident? -Lauren (Team member)

    2. Does drinking water help? I found that is what helps me. It helps calm things so that then I can use my Albuterol.
