Chronic cough

My asthma is pretty well controlled, I have been on Dupixent 300 mg Q2wks. and aerosol Advair 2 puffs at HS for 2 years. My problem is chronic cough. I have been to several ENTs and pulmonologists to no avail. This last dr put me on pulmocort 2 puffs am and pm and told me to hold the Advair. I was skeptical of this because he said my chest was clear and no wheezing heard PLUS I have osteoporosis. I followed his instructions for 30 days but my cough continued so I stopped using it and returned to Advair. My previous pulmonologist [now retired] put me on Dupixent to limit steroid use due to my having osteoporosis. He was hoping this might relieve the cough, but it did not. I have been well controlled since the Dupixent and very rarely have had to use a rescue inhaler. The ENT I see has tried everything , including nerve blocks and Gabapentin po. I could not tolerate the Gabapentin. I wake up every night about 3 am coughing my brains out. I use Mucinex anesthetic throat spray to calm it. I have NO pets in the house and I have no issues when I cut my grass. I am at a loss. Just looking to see if others experience this. GK

  1. I'm not an expert and I can't give medical advice for your safety. That said, have you ever had your esophagus and stomach evaluated? Those can also cause trouble breathing if you have acid reflux. And did the ENT look at your vocal cords? Vocal cord dysfunction can be a problem for people with asthma. I hope you can get to the bottom of this! -Melissa, team member
