I have had asthma since I was a teenager. As an adult I began to experience GERD after I eat. Usually it'll be something small like a piece of cheese or indulging in a pint of ice cream that does it. But tonight it was different. It's a snowy night and I already have a mild cold. My mother sent me homemade French onion soup. I reheated it in my oven and savored it. Afterwards GERD kicked in.
When I get GERD it's accompanied by drainage, that feeling like you've got something stuck in your throat. Sometimes I can't breathe too, that's usually from sinus pressure. Tonight was one of the worst bouts of GERD. I couldn't breathe so I grabbed the rescue inhaler. Couldn't get rid of the drainage so I did TUMS and ginger ale. Then the sinus pressure hit so I needed ibuprofen too. Ultimately peppermint tea helped me the most.
I love hot soup in the winter for warming up and clearing my sinuses. I do not love the side effects it brings my body.
