Perfume and other cosmetic odours

Since I was diagnosed with asthma some years back, I can immediately detect the odour of perfume, cologne, and the like!! It immediately triggers my coughing! Coughing spells that last anywhere from 5 mins on! I immediately leave that area and I am disgusted with people today!
Why? it's all about me, me and me! Never think of anyone besides themselves! Especially seniors who have lost their sense of smell; take a bath or shower in perfume or cologne! I like a fairly light sense; toilet watre or better yet, Four Thieves Spray! This enables natural protection against many germs; very lite scent and it takes 1 spray daily. Why not be charitable and kind and think of others; when deciding to spray yourself with chemicals that harm others?

  1. I hear you!! I am a person that does like to wear light perfume, but since I've been working here I've been a lot more conscious about when and how much I use it.

There are so many scent-related triggers all over the place. Candles, room sprays, tobacco, even exhaust fumes. It's hard to live in a world full of chemicals. How do you try to manage in these situations?

We've had so many conversations about this in the past; I'd say it's probably one of our most popular topics here. Here is just one article that you'll probably relate to:

    1. Certain stores with scented candles, pine cones, etc, set me off. I try to avoid them as much as I can.

      1. YES! These stores can be awful for those of us with sensitivities. Thanks for chiming in. -Lauren (team member)

    2. How many yrs ago did they legally ban indoor smoking? perfumes and heavy colognes should be legally banned! Same reason. Bad for ones health and the health of the air one breathes! @

      1. I don't disagree with your thought process! Perfumes and colognes are very hard to manage for some of us asthmatics. Thanks for chiming in! -Lauren (team member)

    3. I have had to stop attending services at our church because some of the people feel it is their right to wear heavy scents no matter how it affects anyone else.

      1. We have cloudy skies from wild fire smoke and lots of pollen. But still, life is good. I just know that so many people are oblivious.

      2. Glad to hear that you have a positive outlook. Thanks for sharing and being an active community member! All the best, Lauren (team member)
