Symbicort Long Term Use

I have had asthma starting at 41 and I am now just turning 67. I have been on Sybicort for like 6-7 years at one puff of 80/4.5.
It seems to have turned on me and everytime I use it I have extreme anxiety to where I cannot sleep or even sit still. I can’t live like this it’s unbearable. Does anyone have a recommendation for inhalers that don’t cause anxiety? Thanks, John

  1. Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that after 6+ years, Symbicort is causing you extreme anxiety. How long have you been experiencing this new side effect? Have you had a chance to check in with your doctor? Let us know what your doctor has to say. Best of luck, Lauren (team member)

  2. Lauren,
I have been like this for a week. I was trying to come off the Symbicort too fast. I think I saw an online doctor yesterday and they put me on a prednisone dose pack. It just seems steroids now make me really anxiety eat out. I guess my hormones are out of place tomorrow. I see my PA at my pulmonologist I’ll see if they can change me to something other than Symbicort. Thank you very much Lauren for reaching out. I appreciate that take care.

    1. Good luck at your appointment. Let us know how you make out. -Lauren (team member)

    2. Hi. How was your appointment? I hope you had a good conversation with the PA. Were you able to get another medication? It might also be worth it to consider medication and therapy if your anxiety continues in the future. Of course, I hope that's not necessary and that you'll be feeling more like yourself again soon. -Melissa, team member

  3. My doctor suggested pulmicort but it looks like the insurance may not go through, which is Medicare. I’m feeling better now I just think that.fermoterol in my symbicort really messed with me. Thanks for reaching out.

    1. Really glad to hear you're feeling better and that you followed your instincts. It's nice when there is a simple solution to unusual symptoms! My fingers are crossed that you can find an alternative that's both covered by Medicare and agreeable for your body. Hang in there. -Melissa, team member
