Supplemental oxygen use

Mt doctor has me on supplemental oxygen when I sleep and when I exert myself. My mom is making me wear it when I'm driving as well (NOT per doctor instructions). Can that cause more damage or be harmful? Just want to make sure she's not going to wind up causing more harm.

  1. Thank you for being here and for your question. I hear your concern. While we wait for more community members to chime in, I just wanted to say, since oxygen use is very specific to each person’s medical needs, it’s really important to check in with your doctor or respiratory team about any changes in when you’re using it (if you haven't brought this up to them yet). They’ll be able to tell you exactly what’s appropriate and safe for you. I do hope you can get some clarity soon! -Kimberli (Team Member)

  2. Thank you for the response. I have a pulmonology appointment coming up in July. Mom's planning to joint me at that appointment. Hopefully he can explain better than I can why it might be a bad idea, or explain to me why it's OK.

    1. That sounds like a really good plan. It’s great that you’ll be able to talk it through with your pulmonologist, and having your mom there to listen and ask questions could be really helpful too. I hope you’re able to get some clearer answers and feel more confident moving forward. Please keep us posted on how the appointment goes! -Kimberli (Team Member)

  3. Well, I ended up getting kicked out of my mother's house (long story, many tears involved), so I sent the oxygen equipment back and moved to back Texas. My o2 levels are actually higher than I've seen in years even without the supplemental oxygen equipment, so there's that. I'm regularly about 95-97! No oxygen added! Yay! I'm working on getting back to truck driving, since my lungs seem to have straightened out. 🤞

    1. Wow, that sounds like a lot to go through, I’m really sorry about the situation with your mom 💙 That couldn’t have been easy. At the same time, it’s amazing to hear how well your oxygen levels are doing now. 95/97 without supplemental oxygen is a huge win! I’m really glad you’re seeing that kind of improvement. Wishing you all the best as you work toward getting back to truck driving, fingers crossed it all continues in the right direction. You know we are here for you! -Kimberli (Team Member)
